UP PCSJ 2023 (Civil Judge)
UPPSC has released the Exam Calendar for September 2023 to December 2023 Month. UPPSC has not included PCS J (Civil Judge Junior Division) Exam in the Calendar, which means this will be zero session. Applicants who are interested to apply for the posts of Civil Judges and want to be public servants can apply for the UP PCSJ exam. All the details of the UP PCSJ exam are given here on this page.
UP PCSJ stands for Uttar Pradesh Civil Judge (Junior Division) exam. It is a state-level exam conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) to recruit candidates for the post of Civil Judge (Junior Division) in the state’s judiciary. The exam is conducted in three stages:
- Preliminary Exam: The preliminary exam is the first stage of the selection process. It consists of objective-type questions and is conducted for a total of 150 marks. The topics covered in the preliminary exam include General Knowledge and Law.
- Main Exam: The main exam is the second stage of the selection process. It consists of subjective-type questions and is conducted for a total of 1000 marks. The topics covered in the main exam include General Knowledge and Law.
- Interview: Candidates who qualify for the main exam are called for the interview round. The interview is conducted for a total of 100 marks. Candidates are evaluated based on their communication skills, confidence, and general knowledge.
Candidates who clear all three stages of the UP PCSJ exam are eligible for appointment as Civil Judge (Junior Division) in the Uttar Pradesh judiciary.

Eligibility Criteria for UP PCSJ 2023:
- Applicants must be Indian citizens.
- They must have the domicile of Uttar Pradesh to get a reservation and relaxation benefits.
- They must have a degree in law from a recognized university/institute.
- The age of the candidates must be between 22 years and 35 years as of July.
- Candidates of the reserved category will get the reservation and relaxation
- The age relaxation for SC/ST category will be of 5 years.
- The age relaxation for the candidates of the OBC category will be 3 years.
- Knowledge of Dev-Nagri life.
- Other state candidates can also apply but without any relaxation benefits.

- The application form for the UP PCSJ exam is Rs.125 for the General category, Rs.65 for the SC/ST category, and Rs.25 for the PwD category.

Preliminary Exam:
- There will be 2 question papers in the prelim examination.
- Each question paper will be of 200 marks.
- The time duration of the question papers will be 2 hours.
- The first question paper will be based on general awareness.
- The second question paper will be based on the Law.
- The questions will be of objective nature.
Main exam:
- There will be 5 question papers in the main exam.
- All the question papers will be of a descriptive nature.
- Questions will be 200 marks.
- The first question paper will be based on General Knowledge.
- The second question paper will be based on language.
- The third question paper will be based on ‘substantive law’.
- The fourth question paper will be based on ‘Procedure and Evidence.
- ‘Penal, Revenue and Local Laws’ will be based on part of the fifth question paper.

UP PCSJ Merit list 2023:
The UP PCSJ merit list is prepared by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) based on the marks obtained by the candidates in the UP PCSJ exam. The merit list is released after the completion of all three stages of the selection process (Preliminary Exam, Main Exam, and Interview).
The UP PCSJ merit list is prepared based on the combined marks obtained by the candidates in the Main Exam and the Interview. The marks obtained by the candidates in the Preliminary Exam are not considered for the final merit list.
Candidates who secure a place in the UP PCSJ merit list are eligible for appointment as Civil Judge (Junior Division) in the Uttar Pradesh judiciary. The merit list is usually available on the official website of the UPPSC. Candidates can download the merit list and check their ranking using their roll number or name.

The interview is the final stage of the UP PCSJ selection process. Candidates who qualify for the main exam are called for the interview round. The interview is conducted for a total of 100 marks.
The UP PCSJ interview is usually conducted to assess the candidates’ communication skills, confidence, and general knowledge. The interview panel consists of experienced judges and legal experts. The panel may ask questions related to the candidate’s educational qualifications, work experience, legal knowledge, and current affairs.
