Open Audition:
The open auditions, which are normally held in two to six major U.S. cities each season and are typically open to anybody between the ages of 18 and 30 at the time of the audition, are the first stage in choosing a season’s finalists.

Eight weeks are usually allotted for the competition stage, during which time two participants are normally removed each week. Couples made up of male and female dancers may stick together for the majority of the competition if neither dancer is eliminated.
These couples perform one or two duets each week, usually picked at random but not necessarily, in a variety of musical genres.
