UGC (University Grant Commission) has made changes in the M. Phil and PhD programmes norms. UGC has made the period of completing the M. Phil and PhD programme of a min. of 3 years. Also it has made several changes in its norms. The applicants who are thinking to pursue PhD or M. Phil degree under the UGC will now have to spend an extra year in doing the same. - In order to get admissions in the M. Phil, the applicants must have at least 55% marks in the Post-graduation. The Reserved category and those who had done their Post-Graduation before 19 September 1991 will get admissions on the basis of 50% marks.
- A minimum of 1 year period and a maximum of 2 years period in the M. Phil. Female and PwD candidates will get an extra one year.
- A minimum of 55% marks in Post-Graduation is needed to get admissions in PhD by the General Category. While 50% marks is needed by the Reserved category to get the same.
- time period for Ph.D. will be 3 years now and max. time period will be 6 years. Female and PwD candidates will get an extra two years period for the same.
- All the Universities will have to conduct written exams to provide admissions in the M. Phil and PhD programmes.
- During a time period, One professor can guide a maximum of 3 M. Phil and 8 Ph.D., One Associate Professor can guide a max. of 2 M. Phil and 6 PhD and the Assistant Professor can guide a max. of 1 M. Phil and 4 PhD candidates.
